Heard sleeping after lunch is unhealthy, I guess you must have. Interestingly it’s good to take a nap especially after lunch.
It’s natural to feel sleepy in your office or classroom after a heavy lunch. This is because of two main reasons.
Heard of circadian rhythm?? It’s an natural internal clock that regulates sleep – awake cycle roughly every 24hrs. After six to seven hours of awake period in the morning, it’s natural to sleep for sometime in the afternoon.
Say for example, you wake up at 6am after seven hours i.e at 1 pm take a nap for some time so that you feel active in the rest of your day..
In addition to circadian rhythm, blood supply to stomach is increased to digest the food you had. This increase in blood supply Will result in reduced blood supply to other organs especially brain which results in tiredness. Hormones produced by gastrointestinal tract also causes tiredness..
So, It’s natural to feel sleepy but how does it make it healthy?
Short sleep(nap) results in increased concentration ability, reduces stress level, rest to eyes, better memory power.
Nap should last for 30 min to 60 min and it better to sleep between 1pm to 3pm.
In Spanish, it’s called Siesta-having a break after lunch been part of Spanish culture.
Some companies even offer private space for employees to take a nap.
So next time when you doze off you don’t have to find an excuse and enjoy your nap Happily..
